PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapy uses a hands-on, patient-centered approach to correct injuries or imbalances in your body with the guidance of our expert physiotherapists. At Plaza Physiotherapy Burnaby, we guarantee one on one patient treatment and care. Our goal is to offer a calm, supportive environment where patients can focus on healing and functional restoration. We believe that individualized attention leads to better outcomes, allowing our patients to feel seen, heard, and truly cared for.

Our trained and experienced physiotherapists begin your visit by taking a comprehensive body assessment to learn more about your individualized needs and health goals to create a personalized plan that works best for you. Our singular attention is a key aspect setting physiotherapy apart from a standard doctor visit. At our Physio clinic in Burnaby, we believe this detailed assessment is essential for identifying not only the symptoms but the root causes of discomfort. By understanding how previous injuries, postural imbalances, or repetitive movements contribute to pain, we are better equipped to design a treatment plan that promotes long-term healing rather than short-term relief.

Physiotherapy incorporates the use of manual therapies, various modalities and exercise prescription to help you regain movement and get you back to feeling good. Our physiotherapists also provide you with tips and resources to help you maintain proper movement and function outside the clinic to help you live pain free. This proactive approach is what makes services like Physiotherapy in Burnaby so valuable, not only for your injury recovery but also for optimizing your overall wellness. Whether you’re an athlete or someone managing daily physical stress, physiotherapy can help you achieve greater mobility and function.

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that focuses on helping individuals regain movement, reduce pain, and improve overall function. It involves the use of various techniques, including manual therapies, modalities, and exercise prescription. Plaza Physiotherapy Clinic Burnaby regularly works with patients recovering from sports injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation, or chronic conditions like arthritis. Each patient receives targeted care designed to support their specific lifestyle and activity levels.

Manual therapies are hands-on techniques that involve the application of pressure, stretching, or manipulation to the muscles, joints, and soft tissues of the body. These therapies aim to reduce pain, improve mobility, and promote healing. Examples of manual therapies include joint mobilization, soft tissue massage, and trigger point therapy. Our therapists use these hands-on techniques combined with education, so you understand how your muscles and joints work together and how to prevent re-injury in the future.

In addition to manual therapies, various modalities are used to enhance the effectiveness of physiotherapy treatments. Modalities can include ultrasound therapy, electrical stimulation, ice and heat therapy, and hydrotherapy. These modalities are used to reduce inflammation, promote healing, and increase blood flow to the injured area. This comprehensive care approach is a hallmark of Physiotherapy in Burnaby, where advanced therapeutic technology is used alongside traditional hands-on treatments to optimize recovery time.

Exercise prescription is an integral part of physiotherapy and plays a vital role in the recovery and rehabilitation process. Physiotherapists will develop a personalized exercise program tailored to your specific needs and goals. This exercise program may include stretching, strengthening, balance exercises, and aerobic conditioning. Exercise helps to restore movement, reduce pain, and improve overall function. By incorporating these custom exercises into your daily routine, you’ll build resilience, correct imbalances, and improve long-term joint stability, all under the guidance of your care team at our Physio clinic in Burnaby.

What to expect at your session?

Your therapist will begin with a full body, comprehensive assessment. This will include a discussion of your symptoms, daily routines and health history. Additionally, your therapist with take a closer look at your posture and how you move. You may be asked to complete certain movements as part of the assessment to help identify the root cause of your discomfort or pain.

Together, this information will provide a guide for your treatment plan moving forward to ensure relief of any tension or pain you are experiencing. Keep in mind, physiotherapy is not only for people who are already experiencing these situations of discomfort and pain, but also for prevention of any future injuries by strengthening the body and ensuring proper alignment. Injury prevention is a key component of care. We encourage regular check-ins even after recovery to ensure your body stays balanced, mobile and strong.

During subsequent treatments for Physiotherapy Burnaby, therapists will provide a range of methods to improve the way you move, release tension, increase range of motion and build strength.  Hands-on myofascial treatment, joint mobilization and manipulation will be used to decrease tension. In addition, therapists may use modalities and/or acupuncture to assist recovery. Once discomfort and tension have been decreased, our physiotherapists will walk you through personalized corrective exercises to help you control the increased range of motion as well as to strengthen your muscles for increased stabilization. Your therapist will provide description and demonstration of each exercise to ensure you are able to successfully continue these exercises at home. This education is a core part of our process at Plaza Physio, where empowering patients with knowledge is just as important as the treatment.
