Meet the Team - Dr Sen He

Dr. Sen He

ND, RAc

Dr. He (Metropath Naturopathic Medicine Inc.) is a graduate of The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. He is a highly qualified professional with additional training as a Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor from Beijing, China.

Dr. He is able to offer comprehensive treatment plans that include Muscle Energy Techniques (MET), Manual Therapy, Chinese Herbal Medicine, acupuncture, nutrition and homeopathy.

Muscle Energy Techniques are a system of treatments that are self-administered. This method allows Dr. He to teach his patients to understand their musculoskeletal system and be able to self-treat their malalignments. Dr. He’s skills with acupuncture and homeopathy are of further value in treating long-standing conditions which have progressed to a state of scarring. Together with MET and his other protocols, Dr. He is able to reverse the pain and discomfort associated with chronic conditions. Furthermore, his years of experience as a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, make him an exceptional diagnostician and allow him to be very efficient in individualizing your treatment plan.

Dr. He focuses primarily on musculoskeletal complaints and sports medicine, though he is proficient as well in conditions of the digestive tract.

Dr. He combines his knowledge and experience to provide a comprehensive treatment protocol for his patients. His unique combination of acupuncture, deep tissue massage, and homeopathy is extremely effective and allows his patients to experience lasting relief from their complaints.

Nikhita Jain Physiotherapist
Nikhita Jain
BSc., MPT, IMS

Nikhita graduated with a Masters in Physiotherapy from the University of Oxford Brooks, United Kingdom in 2011. In 2009, she graduated with her Bachelors in Physiotherapy from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, India.

She has 6 years of work experience in Canada in both the public and private practice. Her clinical expertise includes evaluation and treatment of various musculoskeletal and neurological disorders. She has particular passion in the treatment of arthritic conditions, chronic pain disorders, spinal disorders and post injury rehabilitation. She also specializes in Vestibular Rehabilitation.

Nikhita utilizes her manipulative skills in correcting faulty joint mechanics, followed by neuromuscular training. She believes in administering one on one treatment protocol and designing exercise regimes tailored towards the goals of the patient. She believes that education is an on-going process and therefore upgrades her skills to provide advanced care to her patients.

Apart from work, she likes to spend time with her family and friends.

Meet the team - Agnes ku Physiotherapist

Agnes Ku

BScPT, BScKIN, CGIMS, MCPA

Agnes has amassed a great deal of compassion for patients struggling with injuries. She has helped patients with a variety of areas of concern, including low back pain from sedentary work, hip pain from K-pop dancing, and knee pain from marathon running.

Agnes has cultivated her philosophy of care through more than 10 years of working experience. She employs a holistic approach that combines both Western and Eastern points of view. She utilizes a combination of manual therapy, acupuncture, Gunn IMS dry needling, muscle energy technique MET, myofascial/craniosacral/visceral release, breathing techniques, pelvic floor control, motor pattern training, taping, and therapeutic exercises to restore her patients to optimal functionality.

In regards to education, Agnes obtained her first bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology (BScKin) along with a Certificate in Health and Fitness Studies. Her past professional work experiences include Curtin University Physiotherapy Clinic in Australia, various clinics in Hong Kong, and acupuncture services in China. Agnes also served as a physiotherapist during the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008 and was recruited to be part of the medical team.

Agnes earned her Physiotherapy degree, a BScPT(Hons), and graduated with high honours. Her placement on the Dean’s Honours List recognized both her exceptional academic and non-academic performances in the Faculty of Heath & Social Sciences. She was also a recipient of the Outstanding Academic Achievement award for three consecutive years, the All-round Outstanding Student award, and numerous scholarships.

Outside of work, Agnes enjoys travelling with friends and family. She loved every moment she spent hiking Dead Woman’s Pass at an altitude of 4215 m (13,828 ft) on a trip to Machu Picchu. She has wonderful memories of backpacking for 17 days in Japan with her father, watching the sunrise after hiking to the top of Mt. Kinabalu in Malaysia, and spending a whole day immersed in paintings at Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum. She is looking forward to soon visiting friends living in Cape Town, Africa.

Salma Samnani

MPT, MAS, Certified in IMS, Certified in Pelvic health and vestibular and concussion

When human beings experience disabling challenges, it’s not uncommon for their lives to unravel.

Salma’s great passion is to help people to overcome physical challenges. She helps her patients (children, youth, Adults, and families) to find healthy perspectives of themselves by enlightening them on the relationships between Mind-body, and soul. Her job is to educate them on how relationships between muscles, joints, and ligaments work so they can manage their physical pain and be more efficient at work, with hobbies, passion, and with their family.

Salma is a proud mom of two sons and a Physiotherapist. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in physiotherapy and a Master’s in administrative sciences. Salma has more than 10 years of experience in different specialties from musculoskeletal injury, neurorehabilitation to cardiovascular rehabilitation from Acute to Chronic illness. She is always curious to learn new techniques all the time because she knows there is no single approach that is right for one Individual.

Reshma Mehta

MPT, CMP, Certified in IMS, Certified in Vestibular Rehabilitation

Reshma completed her Bachelors in Physiotherapy in 2003 and later pursued a Masters degree in Musculoskeletal sciences from Mumbai, India. Reshma has completed manual therapy courses including Mulligan and Maitland techniques.

She is a certified Mulligan Practitioner and applies her skills for rapid results in regaining joint mobility, correcting positional faults, and altered joint mechanics. Reshma uses hands-on techniques such as mobilizations applied at various joints in the body including the shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, knee, ankle and the spinal joints.

Her patients have benefitted immensely from these treatments, receiving rapid and
sustained results in improving movement along with pain management. Reshma has also acquired certifications in Vestibular Rehabilitation as well as dry needling. Reshma also has an interest in neurology and has completed several workshops in Neuro-Developmental Techniques and Motor Control which adds to her extensive skills in dealing with various neurological cases.

Educating and promoting independence are important to Reshma, and she has attended lectures regarding geriatric age groups from the Arthritis Society of Canada. Reshma is always pleased to give advice on good ergonomics and pain reduction, including information on conditions that can affect posture. This includes tailoring home exercise protocols for each patient to prevent future recurrences.

Reshma applies her clinical skills and practical experience as part of a holistic approach towards improving the overall functional status of her patients. Apart from work Reshma enjoys listening to music and cooking in her leisure time.

Jean-Louis (aka Jlo), is a graduate of the RMT program at Langara College. His experience as a life long athlete and background in kinesiology has helped him gain insight on how he’s able to assist others in maintaining health and managing injuries. His approach combines various massage/manual therapy techniques and personalized exercises to provide patient centered care.

Jlo has had the opportunity to work with a range different people and conditions including athletes, seniors, and people with various injuries and neurological conditions.

On his down time, Jlo enjoys board games, video games, lifting weights, playing with his cat, and doing flips (tricking).

Madhu is a dedicated and compassionate individual, is a graduate of West Coast College of Massage Therapy Competency-Based Mastery Level RMT program. Throughout her education, she had the privilege of gaining diverse experience in various outreach and in-reach programs, including working with pre and postnatal mothers, assisting performance athletes, providing care at West Minster House and working with mothers and babies at BC Women’s Hospital.

With over 20 years of experience in healthcare as a Registered Cardiology Technologist working in both Fraser Health and Vancouver Costal Health Region hospitals, Madhu brings a deep understanding of patient care while collaborating with other healthcare professionals at all levels. Her genuine passion lies in making a positive impact on people’s lives and enhancing their quality of life through her learned massage therapy skills. With her extensive background as a health care worker combined with RMT skills, she makes it her goal to help and support her clients by creating a tailored and patient care centered treatments.

Tessa Van Poele

Office Manager

Tessa began working at Plaza Physiotherapy Clinic as a part-time receptionist in 2013 while completing her post secondary studies. She quickly realized her passion for interacting with and supporting clientele in addition to maintaining an efficient office space. To increase her strengths at the clinic she obtained her Medical Office Assistant certificate and took on a full time position as the office manager.

On her own time Tessa enjoys maintaining a healthy lifestyle and motivating others through her own journey by helping them find balance both mentally and physically. She continues to hold onto a passion for design and art as a hobby.

Dr. Wolfgang Schamberger (Associate, Retired)

MD, FRCPC

Dr. Wolfgang Schamberger is a Clinical Associate Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine and consultant at the Allan McGavin Sports Center at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

A former 2:20 marathon runner with 39 races to his credit, he continues to be active in sports, where he gathers firsthand knowledge on biomechanics, sports related injuries and physical problems caused by Malalignment. His book THE MALALIGNMENT SYNDROME: IMPLICATIONS FOR SPORT AND MEDICINE is becoming widely recognized as an important publication in the field of spinal injuries.

Physiotherapist

Jan Boyd

BSc. (PT), MCPA, Reg. College PT (BC)

Jan Boyd graduated from the University of Alberta following completion of a Bachelor’s of Science and Bachelor’s of Physical Therapy (honours) in 1979. She worked in research and published works in medical journals. She also worked in private practice in Edmonton and taught the prenatal program as well as being as associate lecturer at the University. Upon moving to B.C. she went into private practice at Plaza Physiotherapy. She completed many postgraduate courses in manual therapy and sports medicine in Canada and the United States.

Jan was an active participant in orthopedic symposiums and the summer games. Her other official capacities included official investigator for BC, disciplinary committee for the Physiotherapy Association and was an examiner at the University since 1998. Jan encouraged a healthy lifestyle in both personal and professional endeavors.

Jan Boyd passed away peacefully on December 17, 2008.
